Fishing Report October Harris Chain Lakes

Santana Moretto

October can be some of the best fishing you’ll ever experience in Florida! Female bass are staging up to spawn, so you need to look for the staging areas such as deep grass lines, points close to canal openings, or docks with deep water very close to or on them. You do not need electronics to find and catch fish this time of year, simply go buy a topo map. The best lures that I would use during this time of the year are the following: Both 3/8oz (shallow grass areas) & 1/2oz (deep grass areas) Jack Hammer Chatterbait (I have both tied on at all times), Rapala DT6 are great for cranking in 1-6 ft of water, and Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm Junebug paired with 3/8oz Tungsten. A couple of areas to target: Ninth Street canal is a great early morning spot (28.7935232) (81.8785606), and Venetian Cove canal openings are great places to fish. The Venetian canals are such a great spot, tournament anglers are not allowed to fish here during competition days! (28.802939) (81.8752698). To recap, fall fishing can be amazing! Just slow down and take your time at every spot!
